Meet Cartoonist and Illustrator Harry Bliss
Eugene Field Branch Library at 6 p.m., Thursday, November 5
Meet Harry Bliss and hear about his adventures as a cartoonist, children’s book illustrator, and short filmmaker.
In addition to illustrating Doreen Cronin's books and Kate DiCamillo's Louise, the Adventures of a Chicken, Harry Bliss recently released Luke on the Loose, a comic-style book for early readers released as part of the Toon Book series. The book follows a young hero, Luke, as he embarks on a wild pigeon chase across New York City. Since Bliss lives in New York, many of the scenes (such as Luke crossing the Brooklyn Bridge) bring the Big Apple to life for kids.
In addition to illustrating children’s books, Bliss contributes cartoons to numerous publications, and his art has been featured on the cover of the New Yorker magazine. Many of his cartoons have been collected into the 2008 collection, Death by Laughter.
